Overview
This post baccalaureate credit certificate program is designed to prepare students with undergraduate degrees in fields other than communication disorders for entry into master’s degree programs in Speech-Language Pathology.
Holders of this certificate will attain the student learning outcomes typically attained in undergraduate degree programs in communication disorders. Specifically, certificate holders will have knowledge of
- basic human communication and swallowing processes, including their biological, neurological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural bases, and
- the nature of communication and swallowing disorders and differences, including their etiologies, characteristics, anatomical/physiological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural correlates.
Program Requirements
- Student must receive a grade of “C” or better in each class and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50 to continue in the program.
- Completion of the program for awarding of the certificate requires 39 units of coursework with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Note: Obtaining the certificate does not guarantee admission to the MA program in Speech-Language Pathology at Cal State LA.
