Single Subject Credential Preparation Program in Natural Science: Chemistry Emphasis

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry participates in the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree program in Natural Science, which has been approved by the State of California as meeting the subject matter requirements for the Single Subject teaching credential in Science. The Chemistry Emphasis in the Natural Science degree program prepares students for teaching chemistry at any grade level through grade 12. See the section of the catalog dealing with the Natural Science degree for further information. In addition, holders of a Single Subject, Standard Secondary, or Special Secondary teaching credential issued by the State of California may complete the supplementary courses described below to meet the requirements for State of California Supplementary Authorization in Chemistry. Consult with an advisor for the complete set of requirements for obtaining a Single Subject teaching credential or Supplementary Authorization.

Supplementary Authorization in Chemistry for Single Subject Teaching Credential (20 units)
Holders of a Single Subject, Standard Secondary, or Special Secondary teaching credential issued by the State of California may supplement that credential with a Supplementary Authorization in Chemistry for teaching chemistry at any grade level through grade 12 or in classes organized primarily for adults by completing the following program with a grade of C or higher in each course. At least one of the courses must include a laboratory component. For other requirements governing issuance of this authorization, consult the Charter College of Education .
COMPLETE OR DEMONSTRATE PROFICIENCY IN EACH OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES (14 UNITS)
