Healthcare Management, M.S.


The Master of Science degree in Healthcare Management enables people presently or previously employed in healthcare to develop the necessary managerial skills and awareness of recent innovations and reforms in order to fulfill the responsibilities of management positions in the industry. The program’s unique interdisciplinary character permits students to explore diverse perspectives on healthcare management and integrate knowledge from many disciplines.

Admission to the Program

In addition to university requirements for admission to CSULA for graduate study, the Healthcare Management program requires a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75, as determined by CSULA Admissions. The program also requires one or more years of work experience in healthcare, and two letters of recommendation.
To apply for admission to the program, applicants should send the following to the College of Business and Economics, HCM Graduate Admissions:

(1) A cover letter requesting admission to the program, indicating the quarter and year in which the applicant intends to enroll if admitted, with information
     on the applicant’s GPA, work experience, and how the applicant plans to align his or her career and degree objectives.
(2) A résumé that documents a minimum of one year of work experience in healthcare.
(3) A statement of the applicant’s career objectives, indicating why the applicant is pursuing the degree.
(4) Two letters of recommendation, preferably from persons who have supervised the applicant’s work in a healthcare setting.

Applicants should apply to the University and the M.S. Healthcare Management program at the same time. 

Requirements for the Degree (48 units)


A total of 48 units is required, with at least 44 units in 500-level courses. UNIV 400 Graduate Writing Proficiency (0) is also required.

Comprehensive Examination (0 units)


Students may take the comprehensive examination (BUS 596) after completion of all required courses except two and fulfillment of College and departmental requirements regarding the examination.
