The College of Professional and Global Education (PaGE) offers a wide array of programs and educational pathways to meet the diverse needs of learners at every stage. Whether you are an international student interested in pursuing study in the U.S., a resident student seeking to study abroad, a professional looking to enhance your skills, a former student looking to complete your degree, a community member interested in taking classes at Cal State LA or you are seeking personal enrichment, PaGE can help you to achieve your goals.
As one of the eight colleges at Cal State LA, PaGE has the unique mission of providing continuing higher education classes and programs to individuals, businesses, government and non-profits in the Greater Los Angeles area and beyond. PaGE also serves as the liaison to international students and partners for the Cal State LA campus. We provide a variety of opportunities for international students to study in Los Angeles as well as study abroad and exchange programs for Cal State LA students. Students and community members can also take advantage of access to Cal State LA classes via various programs administered by our College: Open University, May Session, Summer Session and Winter Session.

Cal State LA Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles has experienced growth in both population and new businesses, thus creating a need for access to higher education programs. Serving the needs of this community ensures that Cal State LA and the CSU is well positioned in the City of Los Angeles. Further, Cal State LA Downtown fulfills the university’s vision of Cal State LA serving as the city’s university via engagement, service, and the public good.
Cal State LA Downtown offers degree and certificate programs in addition to short, specialized training courses designed to meet the educational and professional needs of individuals and organizations in the downtown Los Angeles area. Designed to be an inviting space that meets the needs of 21st century learners, Cal State LA Downtown features 12 classrooms, two state-of-the art computer labs, comfortable student lounge areas, collaborative work spaces, conference and event space, and administrative and faculty offices. Boasting the latest in educational technology, each classroom is technology enhanced and Wi-Fi enabled. Degree Programs
Academic Advisement
All academic offerings are subject to the same policies and procedures in place at the University, without exception. Advisors within the College provide prospective and enrolled students with advisement related to potential program options, registration, and course selection. Students are advised to consult with an academic advisor before undertaking any program of study.
Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (ABSN)
The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (ABSN) is for non-RN students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing. One cohort of students is admitted each year to start their program in June. Students will complete approximately 74 quarter units of study in both didactic and clinical coursework over 15 months of study. Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cal State LA. Completion of the degree program enables individuals to sit for the NCLEX examination for RN licensure.
ADN-BSN Collaborative Program
Through a collaboration with 10 area community colleges, the ADN-BSN Collaborative Program provides a seamless transition from the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to the Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Students accepted into this program will have completed pre-requisite courses at their respective community colleges and gained a solid foundation in nursing, enabling them to pass the NCLEX-RN exam and, ultimately, complete their BSN degree at Cal State L.A. in an accelerated format.
Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Bachelor of Arts Degree Completion Program in Liberal Studies offers students the opportunity to complete their degree with the General Option of Cal State LA’s Liberal Studies curriculum. Throughout their coursework students will develop their skills in writing and communication across disciplines, contexts and forms of media.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Bachelor of Arts Degree Completion Program in Psychology provides students with the communication and interpersonal skills needed to enter a variety of professions in distinct fields that range from human services and education to business operations and rehabilitation services. Throughout the program, students will be prepared to implement valuable problem-solving techniques and to collect, organize, analyze and interpret data to gain a better understanding of human behavior.
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Bachelors of Science Degree Completion Program in Business Administration, Management Option, is designed to provide students with the tools, techniques and ethics required to succeed in business and related fields. The program develops competence in management and supervisory processes used by executives, supervisors, and comparable administrative officers in industry, finance, government and labor.
Fully Employed MBA Program
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Fully Employed MBA (FEMBA) Program is designed to meet the needs of business professionals with busy schedules. Students complete their degree in 16 months through a hybrid schedule of convenient Saturday classes and experiences on-campus, combined with online learning during the week. By earning an MBA, working executives and professionals can build upon their experience to enhance their leadership, analytic and communication skills in order to make a greater impact on their careers in an increasingly multicultural and globalized economy.
Master of Music in Choral Conducting (MMCC)
By completing three seven-week summer residency sessions, together with 12 quarter units in regular terms at Cal State LA or another accredited university, working music teachers, international students and others with scheduling conflicts or location constraints can earn the Master of Music in Choral Conducting (MMCC) degree, accredited through the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Each intensive summer session prepares the student in choral pedagogy, performance practice and applied vocal/choral training.
Master of Social Work
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Master of Social Work Advanced Standing Program prepares graduate students for entry into advanced and specialized social work practice where they will be able to provide effective service to individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. Students will emerge prepared to engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. The program facilitates completion of the MSW degree requirements for students with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work, allowing them to complete their degree in one year.
Certificate Programs
Civic University
The Civic University is a non-credit certificate program located at Cal State LA Downtown covering the processes and the important functions of the Los Angeles city government. Offered by Cal State LA’s College of Professional and Global Education and Pat Brown Institute, Civic University arose from a shared belief that there are immense gaps in public knowledge and understanding of how Los Angeles city government works. As a result, constituents in many communities feel that they cannot effectively influence their own government. Currently, admission to the Civic University is by invitation only. Individuals and agencies interested in the program should contact Raquel Beltran, associate director of the Pat Brown Institute, for more information.
Clinical Laboratory Scientist
The Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Scientist, provides both didactic and practical clinical training in hematology, clinical chemistry, blood banking, microbiology and immunology to prepare students to sit for the State of California CLS licensing exam (American Society of Clinical Pathology MLS exam).
Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist
The Certificate in Clinical Genetic Molecular Biology Scientist provides both didactic and practical clinical training in molecular testing for cancers, genetic disease markers, histocompatibility types, and some infectious diseases to prepare students to sit for the CGMBS licensing exam.
Legal Interpretation and Translation
The Certificate in Legal Interpretation and Translation helps to train bilingual students for the profession of certified court interpreter, a profession much in demand given the linguistic diversity of the state of California. This unique program can also prepare qualified students for a career as a certified translator or interpreter for any industry that needs to serve individuals with limited English skills, including government agencies, corporations, hospitals and telecoms. Finally, bilingual persons already employed in another capacity can increase their skills and their remuneration with formal interpreting certification from an accredited university.
Medical Interpreting
The Certificate in Medical Interpreting is designed to prepare the student for medical-field work as an English - Spanish medical interpreter in inpatient and outpatient settings. Medical interpreting is a rapidly expanding field as more hospitals and other health industry services opt to provide language services to improve care and efficiency. As a collaborative endeavor between doctor, patient and interpreter, medical interpreting complements and contrasts with the more widely studied legal interpreting.
Paralegal Studies
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Certificate in Paralegal Studies strives to produce competent, well-rounded paralegals who communicate effectively, demonstrate professional skills, and have the training and experience to assist attorneys effectively in a variety of legal practice settings. The program has been American Bar Association (ABA) approved since 1978, making it one of the earliest approved programs in a university setting in California.
Project Management
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Professional Certificate in Project Management Program prepares individuals with the leadership, communication and technical skills required to effectively plan, manage and control projects. Found in many industries, project management roles are in high demand. The Project Manager works with a number of individuals toward an end goal, and is tasked with keeping the team on task and within budget. He or she must communicate well with a variety of people, including management and clients internally and externally, keeping in mind the message may vary depending on the audience. Students will earn a Certificate of Completion for completing the two required courses for this program.
Professional Training Programs
An emphasis of the College of Professional and Global Education is on training working professionals to enhance their job skills and participate in growing job markets. Even experienced professionals in their fields require continuing professional education to remain current on new laws and regulations affecting their practices.
Accounting and Tax Seminars
For over 30 years Cal State LA’s Accounting and Tax Seminars have presented current, topical information for tax practitioners including CPAs, auditors, attorneys and accounting managers. Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, these seminars are presented by leading practitioners and experts in their respective fields in the format of one-half day, full-day, and five or more full-day programs. The program, offered twice per year on five consecutive Saturdays, strives to be affordable, convenient, and timely. The seminars qualify for the continuing professional education credit (CPE and MCLE) of both the California State Board of Accountancy and the State Bar of California.

Medical Billing and Coding
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Medical Billing and Coding Program is an 80-hour billing and coding course that offers the skills needed to resolve insurance billing problems, manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-10 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. After obtaining practical work experience (six months to two years), students who complete this course may be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) - Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H Apprentice); the American Health Information Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam; or other National Certification Exams.
Pharmacy Technician
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Pharmacy Technician Program is a comprehensive 50-hour course that prepares students to work as a pharmacy technician in retail or other pharmacy settings. Students will also be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. This course will explore the following: pharmacy medical terminology, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names.
Registered Behavior Technician Training
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Program is a 40-hour online training program designed to meet the content knowledge set out by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB) for RBT certification, and is based upon the Registered Behavior Technician Task List. The program is designed to explain applied behavior analysis and provide students with an understanding of the topics and tasks they will be learning and doing as behavior service providers. It also helps students develop their application abilities and pass the certification exam to become competent RBTs. The training covers the following topics: Measurement, Assessment, Skill Acquisition, Behavior Reduction, Documentation and Reporting, and Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice as is based upon the BACB RBT Task List.
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certification Prep
Offered at Cal State LA Downtown, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Certification Preparation course is designed to provide SHRM credential candidates an opportunity to expand and test their knowledge and practical competencies in areas critical for career success in human resource management. The new standard for HR professionals around the globe, SHRM certification focuses on practical HR information and encourages students to apply concepts, using behavioral judgment, to understand best practices for handling both day-to-day and unexpected scenarios. SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP are based on in-depth research focused on and backed by global employers and business leaders. They reflect what HR practitioners need to know to be leaders in their organizations and in the profession.

Whether you are pursuing your passion or immersing yourself in a new subject, our college’s courses for personal enrichment provide the environment for you to explore your world. Our programs offer something for learners of all ages, backgrounds and interests.
Institutional Programs
Open University
Open University allows eligible individuals to take Cal State L.A. credit classes, on a space-available basis, without being admitted to the University. Approval to enroll in classes is subject to meeting course requirements/prerequisites. To register, individuals must first obtain the instructor’s permission to add the class, and then obtain the academic department office’s approval prior to paying the course fee. Formal admission to Cal State L.A. is not required, but the classes taken through Open University may allow you to earn credits in order to complete a degree, improve your grade point average to enable you, if you have been disqualified, to be reinstated, or apply the earned credits toward a future degree.
Summer Session
Summer Session is a great way to take the courses you need to get ahead in your degree, catch up on your program requirements, or immerse yourself in a subject for personal enrichment.
Winter Session
Students can make the most of their break by taking classes between the Fall and Spring semesters. Winter Session allows students to earn college credit, make progress toward a degree, graduate on time (or early), complete high demand courses and focus on a single class.
May Session
Taking place between the Spring Semester and Summer Session, May Session allows students to complete a full course in only three weeks and make it to graduation faster.
International Services for the Campus
The University’s excellent academic programs attract international (visa) students from around the world. The International Office, as part of the College, provides assistance in admission, orientation, and counseling to all international students and scholars, permanent resident alien students, and refugees. Students interested in organizing national or cultural clubs may obtain support and guidance from the International Office. The professional staff offers advising for educational, social, or personal issues. The International Office provides assistance and guidance to students who wish to obtain practical training and maintain compliance with U.S. immigration requirements. Visa and Immigration Support Services
The International Office provides assistance to visa students, foreign scholars, and foreign faculty with visa issuance (F, H, and J visas, etc.), maintenance of student status, and matters that involve the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This office also provides assistance to visa students and scholars in their academic and cultural adjustment.
English Language Program
The English Language Program (ELP) offers intensive English training for students eighteen (18) years of age or older via daily classroom instruction. Classes are scheduled during a 15-week term at six proficiency levels. The University Bridge level (sometimes called Level 7) offers academic preparation and access to Open University credit courses. Instruction centers on the language areas of: Reading and Writing; Structure (Grammar); Speaking; Listening and Pronunciation; and Preparation for the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language). I-20 documents are issued by the ELP office for international students applying for visas. The program is also available to permanent U.S. residents, visiting scholars, and any student on campus wishing to improve language skills in English to succeed in his or her major.
Study Abroad
Developing intercultural communication skills and international understanding among its students is a vital mission of Cal State LA. The International Office provides assistance to students interested in studying abroad. Participants earn resident academic credit at Cal State LA while they pursue full-time study at a host university or special study center abroad. Study in L.A. Program
Study in LA offers students from all corners of the globe the opportunity to experience U.S. university life by enrolling in academic courses for a short-term overseas experience without applying for admission to a Cal State LA degree program. International students with advanced English skills can enroll in 12 undergraduate or 8 graduate units of Cal State LA courses. Students with English proficiency slightly below the required scores are eligible to enroll in a combination of university courses and intensive English language classes offered through the English Language Program. Approval to enroll in classes is subject to meeting course requirements/prerequisites and other conditions. Credits earned are listed on an official Cal State LA transcript and may be transferable to other universities.
International Summer Session
International Summer Session is a non-degree program for visiting international students who want to study at Cal State LA just for the summer term. Academic credit courses are offered in a five week or 10-week session with courses in subjects such as management, accounting, finance, marketing, engineering, computer science, history and political science.
