With recent, rapid advances in computer hardware and computer software technology, computer science has become one of the most exciting and dynamic fields of study and research. Careers in computer science offer infinite opportunities, since almost any conceivable modern device or business transaction uses computers and computer languages. The job market is strong for workers who have specialties in areas such as computer networks, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, database systems, and distributed systems. The Department of Computer Science offers an undergraduate program of study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a graduate program leading to the Master of Science in Computer Science. The degree program allows preparation for graduate study and professional careers involving the design of computer systems and their application to science and industry. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202 - telephone: (410) 347-7700. Students may also minor in computer science to enhance skills that will complement their future careers. The department also participates in an Interdisciplinary Studies Minor in Multimedia that enables students to develop interactive, multimedia products.
