Latin American Studies: Reenvisioning the Americas from the Local to the Global

Latin American Studies is an interdisciplinary and engaged program that prepares students with the analytical, communicative, and practical skills to reshape our communities towards the ideal that a better world is possible.

The total number of units required for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American Studies Program is 120 units, of which 30 units are in the major. Consult with an advisor for the specific number of units required in all areas of the degree including GE and free electives.

Upper Division General Electives (15 units)


Complete a minimum of 3 units in each of the three focus areas listed below. The selection must include at least 12 units of 4000-level courses. With advisor approval students may also complete additional courses related to Latin America in other fields and disciplines as part of their program. LAS and their cross-listing courses taken to satisfy the Core, Upper-Division Latin American Studies Electives cannot be repeated and be double-counted for general elective credits.
