A minor in Spanish, totaling 23 units, is available for students majoring in other fields. Following completion of a common core, students select a total three electives. Electives encompass literature, film, linguistics, and civilization, as well as applied language.
Those interested in broadening their knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic language and culture would typically select from ML 3003, 3009, SPAN 2420, 3400, 4013, 4080, 4100, 4110 or 4130, and either 3100 or 3150. Students whose career goals require communicative proficiency in Spanish are encouraged to enroll in SPAN 3002, 3020, 3050, 3200, 3800, 3970, and 4000. SPAN 1001 and 1002 are prerequisites to this program and may be satisfied by appropriate high school preparation or by examination.
