Overview
The program leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application of the news industry in contemporary society. It is the primary objective of our curriculum to develop a knowledgeable and artistically skilled graduate who will be able to pursue an advanced degree and/or a professional journalism career in radio, television, digital, and multiplatform media. The program emphasizes the importance of the news media in constructing awareness of the multi-cultural composition of society, as well as the media’s impact on all aspects of human interaction.
The total number of units required for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism is 120 units, of which 42 units are in the major. Consult with an adviser for the specific number of units required in all areas of the degree including GE and free electives.

Requirements for the Major (42 units)
Students should plan their programs with careful attention to prerequisites for upper division courses. Core Requirements (36 units)
Lower Division Required Courses (12 units)
Upper Division Required Courses (24 units)
Only 3 units of JOUR 3910 will be applied toward this requirement. Electives (6 units)
Select two of the following courses. Three units of JOUR 3910 is applied toward elective credit only after the Upper Division requirement is satisfied. |
