The Certificate in Educational Therapy is designed for those who hold or are obtaining the Education Specialist Instruction Credential in Mild/Moderate Disabilities (or related special education credentials) and seek further knowledge and skills in educational therapy. An educational therapist is an educational professional who combines educational and therapeutic approaches for evaluation, remediation, case management, and communication/advocacy on behalf of children, adolescents and adults with learning disabilities or learning problems. An educational therapist serves the precise needs of individual clients in a private practice or clinic. This certificate provides advanced training in assessment, individualized instruction and remediation, literacy problems and interventions, case management, and advocacy for children with learning problems within an educational therapy practice. The Certificate in Educational Therapy is aligned with the course requirements for associate-level membership in the Association of Educational Therapists (www.aetonline.org). Those who seek membership in the Association of Educational Therapists may need to complete additional courses and supervised hours, depending on their academic records and previous educational experience. Prospective students should contact the coordinator for the Certificate in Educational Therapy program for advisement. Those who obtain this certificate will be prepared to serve students with learning disabilities and other learning challenges in educational therapy settings.
