The B.A. Degree Program in Asian and Asian American Studies at CSULA is an interdisciplinary program with an emphasis on the connections between Asian and Asian American Studies and community engagement. The program permits pursuit of a wide range of interests and career aspirations. Students should confer in advance with an academic adviser to select the courses and program appropriate to their goals.
The total number of units required for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Asian and Asian American Studies is 120 units, of which 42 units are in the major. Students have a choice of an Asian Studies option or an Asian American Studies option.

Requirements for the Major (42 units)
Both options require a common core of 18 units of lower and upper division courses and 9 units of special studies courses.

Option 1: Asian Studies (15 units)
Select five AAAS courses listed below or relevant courses offered by other programs. One of them has to be a service learning course and two have to be upper division courses. Be sure to select courses that will build a pathway for your future career or graduate studies. Academic advisor’s approval is required. Any Asian language course may be used to meet 3 units.
Option 2: Asian American Studies (15 units)
Select five AAAS courses listed below or relevant courses offered by other programs. One of them has to be a service learning course and two have to be upper division courses. Be sure to select courses that will build a pathway for your future career or graduate studies. Academic advisor’s approval is required. Any Asian language course may be used to meet 3 units.
