Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

  1. broaden their understanding of mounting environmental and social issues that impact our local and global communities by taking a range of sustainability-focused and sustainability-inclusive courses across disciplines;
  2. gain a foundation in the scientific, cultural, and social aspects of urban, local, and global environmental justice issues and solutions;
  3. enhance their employment portfolio to appeal to the increasing number of employers seeking college graduates equipped to tackle climate, sustainability, and environmental issues in their careers

Fit with the Institutional Mission or Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO) 

1. (Knowledge: Mastery of content and process of inquiry) students will have the opportunity to broaden their understanding of environmental issues with a focus on how human cultures conceptualize and interact with the natural world

2. (Proficiency: Intellectual Skills) students will enhance their ability to find, evaluate, and use reliable and accurate information related to environmental issues in oral, written, and multi-modal forms of communication

3. (Place and Community: Urban and Global Mission) students will gain a deeper understanding of how to make socially responsible decisions regarding sustainability in the multi-lingual and multi-ethnic communities of Southern California

4. (Transformation: Integrative learning) students will engage in applied interdisciplinary learning through community-based projects focused on the environment
