The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Dietetics Internship program fits very nicely with Cal State LA ILOs.

 1. Knowledge: Mastery of content and processes of inquiry Students completing our dietetic internship will have the knowledge base in nutritional science to address a wide variety of health issues. The program requires a very strong science background, which provides a large range of disciplines, and courses in the post bacc along with hours spent in supervised practice will focus on nutritional science to narrow the scope of inquiry and specialization.

2. Proficiency: Intellectual skills Students earning a post bacc in nutritional science will be taught to effectively use evidence in the discipline to create nutrition care plans, write grants, conduct quality assurance activities, and problem solve in real life settings. Students will be taught to critically examine a variety of sources of data and using that data, provide medical nutrition therapy to patients and communities. They will also hone their writing and speaking skills.

 3. Place and Community: Urban and global mission Part of the mission of our undergraduate and graduate nutrition programs, and also our dietetic internship, is to train nutrition professionals with a special emphasis on community nutrition. Students will complete hours in community settings, and will be placed in large urban hospitals. They will have a chance to reflect on these experiences.

 4. Transformation: Integrative learning The field of nutrition is rapidly and constantly changing. Graduates of the post bacc dietetic internship will learn to examine research, synthesize what is currently known, and utilize the information to inform best practices when working with patients or clients. Their roles as future mentors and leaders will be emphasized, and they will be afforded opportunities to advocate for the profession and for healthy communities.
