C1. How will the changes fit with the Institutional Mission / Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO)
ILO #1. Knowledge: Mastery of content and processes of inquiry The proposed changes will enhance the knowledge base for KIN students in Option II. For example, by adding NTRS 4300 Sports Nutrition, students will learn how nutrition impacts exercise performance. Currently, there are no nutrition courses in the KIN major. This class will help students gain a more comprehensive understanding of the nutritional factors influencing exercise. Similarly, adding the new course, KIN 4350 Motivational Interviewing for Exercise Psychology, will enhance students’ knowledge of exercise motivation. They will learn how motivational interviewing strengthens commitment to a specific goal since it is based on a person’s own reasons and rooted in acceptance and compassion. ILO #3. Place and Community: Urban and global mission The proposed change will not only help students become aware of how their actions impact society but it will empower them to make an impact. KIN 4450 Practicum in Exercise Psychology is a service learning class. KIN 4450 students will provide free one-on-one sessions to the Cal State LA community and teach them about non-dieting approaches to health. The course is central to the Golden Eagle Physical Activity Mentoring (GEPAM) program which is a collaboration between the School of Kinesiology and the University Student Union Recreation Center. Since Fall 2021, GEPAM has served over 75 unique clients and offered more than 200 sessions to majority student clients.
C2. Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
