C1. Fit with the Institutional Mission / Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO)
The proposed program complements the institutional mission and aligns with the campus goals and priorities in the following ways. Graduates of the M.A. in Education for Social Change degree program demonstrate content and process of inquiry knowledge and skills (ILO 1) in curriculum theory, implementation, interpretation, and analysis of relevant research grounded in education and the option field of study (PLO 4). They have the intellectual and critical thinking skills to actively participate in a democratic society (ILO 2) as they build critical consciousness and agentic capacities that lead to social and educational change (PLO 1), analyze systems of intersectional oppression and reflect on their role in the transformation of schools and society (PLO 2), and communicate their ideas through multiple modalities that reflect critical thinking and reflective practices (PLO 3). In addition, graduates are engaged individuals who contribute to multi-lingual and multiethnic communities (ILO 3) through enacted leadership grounded in collaboration, advocacy, and agency in education and the option field of study (PLO 5). Further, graduates integrate academic learning with life (ILO 4) as they incorporate research-based knowledge centered on justice and equity to challenge practices in education and the option field of study (PLO 6), addressing complex and contemporary issues and acting ethically as leaders for the 21st century (ILO 4). Finally, in alignment with the campus strategic plan, this program aims to graduate civic-minded students equipped for and committed to engagement, service, and the public good - in education and within their option field of study.
