Cal State LA graduates have a strong knowledge base in their academic major and can use powerful processes of inquiry in a range of disciplines.

 

They engage contemporary and enduring questions with an understanding of the complexities of human cultures and the physical and natural world and are ready to put their knowledge into action to address contemporary issues. (Knowledge: Mastery of Content and Processes of Inquiry)

 

WGSS graduates are able to describe and evaluate biological, cultural, and social theories of sex, gender, and sexuality and the history of these theories. They can provide examples of ways that gender and sexuality shapes bodies, subjectivities, identities, and collectivities. (Knowledge)

 

WGSS graduates can explain how sex, gender, and sexuality intersect with race, ethnicity, ability, class, and nation, and how this structures inequality and injustice. (Knowledge)

 

WGSS graduates are able to describe the development of feminist and LGBT theories and movements in relation to the experiences of diverse people in the United States and around the world. (Knowledge)

Students will demonstrate skills in listening, speaking, and writing effectively, performing critical thinking and analysis that incorporates feminist and LGBT theoretical perspectives. (Knowledge)

 

Students will demonstrate verbally and in writing the theory of intersectionality, and how it applies in historical and contemporary contexts. (Knowledge)

 

Cal State LA graduates are equipped to actively participate in democratic society. They are critical thinkers who make use of quantitative and qualitative reasoning. They have the ability to find, use, evaluate and process information in order to engage in complex decision-making. They read critically, speak and write clearly and thoughtfully and communicate effectively. (Proficiency: Intellectual skills)

WGSS graduates can identify issues and research problems relevant to women and LGBT people, and communicate knowledge and solutions in multiple modalities (verbal, visual, written) (Proficiency)

Students will formulate a research problem related to gender and sexuality within an intersectional framework, and identify the appropriate sources and methodologies to investigate that problem. (Proficiency)

 

Students will evaluate and interpret information from a variety of sources, including print and electronic media, film, video, performance, visual art, and other information technologies. (Proficiency)

Cal State LA graduates are engaged individuals who have contributed to the multilingual and multiethnic communities that constitute Los Angeles and the world of the future.
