C2. Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

• Demonstrate the ability to communicate successfully with native speakers of French in a limited range of contexts (personal, familiar topics) on at least the ACTFL Intermediate level.
• Describe some aspects of French and Francophone cultures.  Analyze differences between these cultures and student’s own.  Identify some well-known historical figures and events, and understand and be able to explain some cultural characteristics of countries in which French is spoken.
• Understand spoken and visual messages, live or in recordings or videos, and summarize and discuss such messages or respond to them in an interactive context, on at least the ACTFL Intermediate level.
• Be able to read and discuss short texts in a variety of formats (e.g. literary texts, advertisements, news articles, websites).
• Demonstrate familiarity with library and information technology as part of a well-rounded education in the humanities, and exploit such technology to find resources in French.
