Fit with the Institutional Mission or Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO)
The program has always aligned its PLOs with the ILOs. By making this program entirely online, we are furthering the ILO3 (PLOs3) and ILO4 (PLOs 4 and 5) in general, which are Place: Urban and Global Mission and Transformation: Integrative Learning. Specifically, in our move to all online, we would enhance: Engagement: 3.1 Demonstrated ability to identify communication challenges for living in a globalized world, Professional Development: 4.1 Demonstrated awareness of the ways people in different cultures and socio-organizational contexts make sense of life, communicate and conduct business, and 5.3 Development of a learning plan for self-directed life-long learning.
Few degrees are more salient in the workforce than Organizational Communication. In our program students learn how human communication plays a pivotal role in such organizational forces as globalization, changes in technology, and business practices and innovations in our dynamic and ever-changing cultural and environmental landscape.
We have done a survey of comparable programs, and our program is extremely competitive. Moreover, students want a degree from a California school (as opposed to University of Phoenix). Currently our program is accessible only to students within a small radius of Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA). If we can make it accessible to students in central and northern California through a fully online program, we will potentially help many more people enhance their careers.
