C1. How will the changes fit with the Institutional Mission / Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO)
1. Knowledge: Mastery of content and processes of inquiry Graduates of the Environmental Science MS program will possess a robust knowledge of their academic major, facilitated by the proposed modifications that encompass the program’s core courses and an updated array of electives and culminating experience. They will be able to analyze environmental problems and solutions in the context of coupled human-environmental interactions and will be ready to put their knowledge into action to address contemporary environmental issues. 2. Proficiency: Intellectual skills Considering the suggested modifications, individuals graduating from the Environmental Science MS program will have heightened capabilities to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, critically read and analyze data from published scientific literature, and apply advanced knowledge and appropriate tools to create possible solutions to environmental problems 3. Place and Community: Urban and global mission Graduates of the Environmental Science MS program will have the ability to inform policy related to environment sustainability including management of resources in urban settings (e.g. LA area), facilitated by the proposed modifications that encompass the program’s core courses and an updated array of electives. These graduates will be community builders sensitive to the environmental needs of diverse individuals and groups and committed to renewing the communities in which they live. 4. Transformation: Integrative learning The proposed modifications will enable graduates of the Environmental Science MS program to seamlessly integrate their academic learning with real-life accomplishments. They will engage in professional, creative, research, and scholarly projects that lead to changes in their sense of self and understanding of their worlds. Graduates integrate their knowledge, skills, and experience to address complex and contemporary issues and act ethically as leaders for the 21st century.
