C1. Fit with the Institutional Mission / Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO)
1. Knowledge: Mastery of content and processes of inquiry: PLO 1-8
2. Proficiency: Intellectual skills: PLO 9-11
3. Place and Community: Urban and global mission: PLO 4-5
4. Transformation: Integrative learning: PLO 6-8
C2. Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
1. Describe key concepts, principles, and overarching themes in geology.
2. Describe the formation of the three basic rock types and related minerals.
3. Explain the unifying geologic principles and theories; understand their impact on Earth systems in the context of Earth dynamics and processes.
4. Describe the human-environment interactions as they relate to natural disasters and natural resources.
5. Be familiar with current technological applications and how they are applied to solving geologic problems.
6. Be able to construct geologic maps, stratigraphic columns, and structural cross-sections, then use them to interpret the geologic history of an area.
7. Use petrographic microscopes and hand lenses to make observations of rocks and link those observations to specific interpretations and petrogenetic histories.
8. Be able to recognize, identify, and describe geologic structures in the field, then relate them to geologic processes.
9. Be able to summarize scientific lab and/or field observations and related interpretations in a correctly formatted geologic report and be able to apply math and physics principles to solving field-based geologic problems.
10. Be able to read and comprehend scientific articles, and summarize data and interpretations.
11. Exhibit effective writing and presentation skills.
