Students of the Material Science and Engineering program (MSE) program have an opportunity to enroll in a wide variety of courses depending on their background, interest, and future goals. The MSE program prepares graduate students for industrial positions in related fields and for Ph.D. programs at other universities. Through the program, the students learn the application of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering to solve materials science-related problems. The program emphasis is on the fundamentals of materials science to enable students to practice as engineers and scientists to build a better tomorrow through innovations in materials science and engineering.
A total of 30 semester units required with at least 15 in 5000-level courses. All students are required to complete the 6 core courses, for a total of 16 units.
Advisor approval is required for enrolling in any elective course. Either a thesis or a comprehensive examination is required as the culminating experience prior to graduation.
A bachelor of science degree in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering with minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Applicants must complete the CSU Mentor Online Application to the University and MSE Departmental Supplemental Application at http://www.calstatela.edu/ecst/graduateprogram.
