The Minor in Urban Studies at CSULA embraces an interdisciplinary approach to analyze cities and urban life in the United States and around the world. Students explore the history of urbanization, social/cultural aspects of city life, suburban growth, and environmental aspects of the built environment. Students engage in urban politics and policy, sustainable development, and public life, with a particular focus on Los Angeles and the surrounding communities. The minor consists of 21 units drawn from a variety of disciplinary specialties including Geography, Anthropology, Sociology, and Latin American Studies, among others.
