The Pre-Medicine/MDpas Certificate explores the academic and professional requirements for a career as a Medical Doctor (including allopathic, osteopathic, and naturopathic medicine). The certificate allows students to meet the prerequisite courses to be eligible to apply to top medical schools while preparing them for a culturally-centered and responsive medical practice. More specifically, the certificate program is grounded in the tenets of Pan Africanism/Pan African Studies, which will provide students with a critical understanding of the dynamics of race and power while giving them a view of indigenous healing and medical modalities practiced in Africa before colonialism and currently by Africans worldwide
The certificate requires 65 units. However, all of the required science courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics have pre-and co-requisites. Please click on each required course below to view the pre-and co-requisites needed. The pre-and co-requisites are not unique to the Pre-Medicine/MDpas Certificate. Instead, they are required for any student taking the list of courses below.
Any Cal State LA undergraduate student may apply for the program. For admission to the program contact the Department of Pan-African Studies located in King Hall 3096 or at (323) 343-2290.
