Overview

The Minor in Creative Studies in Music supplements existing music major programs by offering a curriculum that combines music composition, improvisation, applied world music and creative applications of technology into a single skills-based program.

• MUS 1500 - Music in World Culture
• MUS 1880 - Introduction to Music: Music Technology I
• MUS 2011 - Theory and Musicianship III
• MUS 2012 - Theory and Musicianship IV
• MUS 2021 - Musicianship Lab III
• MUS 2022 - Musicianship Lab IV
• MUS 2031 - Class Piano Instruction III
• MUS 2032 - Class Piano Instruction IV
• MUS 3620 - Orchestration and Arranging  or equivalent.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Minor in Creative Studies in Music, the student will have the ability to:

• Improvise in a variety of styles;
• Use music technology in performance and composition outside of the standard commercial applications;
• Show proficiency through perfomance and composition in at least one non-Western, world music style (Arabic music, West African music, etc.).
