A minor in Japanese is available for students majoring in other fields or those with an interest in East Asia in general. It may be of particular interest to students studying history, international relations, sociology, other languages and literatures, business, or technology, as well as to those seeking employment with the government or international agencies.
Prerequisite: Elementary Japanese (JAPN 1001 , JAPN 1011 , JAPN 1002 , and JAPN 1012 ) or an equivalent level of proficiency. The minor requires completion of 15-17 units of Japanese courses listed in the Requirements for the Minor in Japanese.

Requirements for the Minor (15-17 units)
Elementary Japanese (JAPN 1001, 1011, 1002, and 1012), or an equivalent level of proficiency, are prerequisites to the minor. A total of 15-17 units are required from Lower Division Required Courses (6-8 units) and Upper Division Electives (9 units).
Lower Division Required Courses (6-8 units)
Upper Division Electives (9 units)
Select 3-9 units from Group A and 0-6 units from Group B.
Group A: Electives taught in Japanese (3-9 units)
Select 3-9 units from the following. At least one upper-division course taught in Japanese is required.
