A minor in Japanese is available for students majoring in other fields or those with an interest in East Asia in general. It may be of particular interest to students studying history, international relations, sociology, other languages and literatures, business, or technology, as well as to those seeking employment with the government or international agencies.

Prerequisite: Elementary Japanese (JAPN 1001 and 1002) or an equivalent level of proficiency. The minor requires completion of 18 - 20 units in Japanese as listed below.

Requirements for the Minor (18-20 units)

Lower Division Required Courses (6-8 units):

JAPN 2001 - Intermediate Japanese I (4)
JAPN 2002 - Intermediate Japanese II (4)
or (only if students do not need to take JAPN 2001 and 2002, having language proficiency high enough to take JAPN 3001)*
JAPN 2500 - Japanese Culture through Anime and Manga (3)
JAPN 2600 - Japanese Culture through Films (3)
*with permission from the instructors of JAPN 2500 and 2600
