The Master of Arts Degree in Education with an Option in Early Childhood/Primary Education offers candidates the opportunity to focus on practical classroom application in early childhood education based on current theory and research. It allows candidates to develop their knowledge and skills in a variety of topics related to early childhood education.
Admission to the Program
Applicants must meet university requirements for admission to graduate study. In addition, applicants should have attained a minimum of 2.75 grade point average in the last 60 semester (or 90 quarter) units attempted, and have consulted with a faculty advisor. A score of 600 or higher on TOEFL is required for visa students. In addition, a California credential or a General Elementary or Kindergarten-Primary Credential issued by any state or two years of experience teaching young children is recommended. Students must submit a written application to the Charter College of Education and the Division of Curriculum and Instruction (download the form from the Charter College of Education website). Two letters of recommendation from university faculty or professional references are required.

Requirements for the Degree (30 units)
A total of 30 units or more are required, with at least 15 in 5000-level courses. A comprehensive examination or a thesis or project is required.

Notes:
Students should expect to take the Comprehensive Examination (EDCI 5960 ) during the Fall or Spring semester after they complete all coursework on their program and must comply with college and division requirements.
*Students who do a thesis are required to obtain advisor approval.
