Overview

The Department of History provides opportunities to study the development and interaction of the world’s cultures. In addition to a broad curriculum in local, national, and world history, the department offers a wide variety of special topics courses. The study of history thus contributes to the attainment of intellectual and cultural objectives of a liberal-arts education appropriate to careers in teaching, law, journalism, business, government service, librarianship, historical research, and public history.

The department offers the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in History and minors in History, in Labor and Working Class Studies, and in Religious Studies.
