The School of Kinesiology, Nutrition and Food Science focuses on the study of human physical activity, dietary practices, and food manufacturing processes. The School’s mission is to prepare professionals to practice at the baccalaureate and masters level, conduct research, pursue graduate study, and engage in public and professional service. The overall goals of the School are to promote adoption of lifestyles that involve health-related physical activity and healthy eating at various stages of the lifecycle, and to encourage production of healthy, safe, and attractive foods.

Degree Programs

The School of Kinesiology Nutrition and Food Science offers Bachelor of Science degree programs in Exercise Science, in Food Science and Technology, in Kinesiology and in Nutritional Science; Master of Science degree programs in Kinesiology and in Nutritional Science.

The School offers Master of Science degree in Kinesiology and a Master of Science degree in Nutritional Science.

Credentials, Certificates and other Non-Degree programs

The Bachelor of Science degree program in Kinesiology Option III - Subject Matter Preparation for Single Subject Teaching Credential is approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing as the subject matter program that qualifies students for the Single Subject credential in Physical Education. Students should consult with credential advisers in the School of Kinesiology Nutrition and Food Science and the Charter College of Education.
The Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization APEAA is an advanced credential by the State of California for holders of the single-subject teaching credential in Physical Education, or a Multiple Subject Credential or an Education Specialist Credential, each with a physical education background.

The undergraduate program in Nutritional Science is approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics Education (ACEND) as an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), which means that when a student graduates, they will have the foundation of knowledge and skills to enable them to be eligible to apply to and succeed in a dietetics internship.  

The Post-Baccalaureate Program in Nutritional Science provides students with the knowledge and skills required by ACEND to become an entry level registered dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN). Upon successful completion of this program students will be provided a verification statement which will allow for application to a supervised practice program (dietetic internship).
The School also offers a wide variety of physical activity and exercise courses for university students, staff, faculty. Programs for members of the community are also available at the Mobility Center. The Mobility Center is a service-learning based therapeutic exercise program located off campus at 1000 S. Fremont Avenue Building B-1, Lower Level, Suite B10200 Alhambra CA 91803.
