Overview

The faculty in the Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing believes that nursing is a healthcare profession, which systematically assists patients/clients to achieve health or health-related goals. The focus of nursing is on a health promotion system of care and nurses provide health care for individuals, families, and communities. Further, the faculty believes that students, endowed with the capacity for self-direction, are responsible for their own learning and self-development.

The nursing curriculum prepares nurses for professional careers in the maintenance and promotion of health and in supportive, preventive, therapeutic, and restorative nursing care for individuals, families, and communities in institutional and community-based settings. Students who complete the undergraduate program will have acquired knowledge and skills specific to generalized professional nursing practice and will be qualified to assume leadership roles. Students who complete the graduate program will be prepared to function in advanced nursing practice roles as nurse practitioners or in nursing administration or education roles.
