Overview
The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department offers excellence, innovation, integrity, and distinctiveness in bachelor’s and master’s level education taught from a contemporary and global perspective. The Department is poised to provide a solid foundation in this vital field of Engineering by offering a well-rounded, up-to-date curriculum that provides an optimal balance between theory and practice and prepares students for the challenges of being the innovators and leaders of the field. Electrical or computer engineers are involved in all aspects of development and implementation of electrical devices and systems, from conceptual design, simulation, implementation, testing, to manufacturing. They are generally involved in one or more major areas such as electronics, computers, communications, controls, biomedical, systems engineering or power. Each of these major areas includes several subdivisions such as machine learning, cognitive radios, embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and automation, smart power grid, renewable energy systems, neuro-engineering Technology, and bio-inspired computing. Besides employment in research, development, and design, many electrical engineering graduates are involved in manufacturing, management, sales, testing and teaching. Careers are readily available in industry, government, research, and education. Effective fall 2024, The department will offer the Minor in Electrical and Computer Engineering program. This minor provides students in related engineering and science programs with the opportunity to gain fundamental knowledge, develop skills in different areas of the ECE disciplines, and to participate in interdisciplinary studies. Completion of this minor will also prepare the students for graduate studies in ECE. Five areas will be offered in the minor program: [1] Computer Engineering, [2] Machine Learning / Signal Processing, [3] Robotics/ Controls, [4] Energy & Sustainability, and [5] Sensors / Instrumentation.

The BS degree in Electrical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunications(s), and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
