Course Description: Surveys contemporary dance history, examining major artistic movements, theories of the body, as well as feminist and global influences in the development of contemporary dance and ballet. The class approaches and analyzes the emergence of modernist dance aesthetics in the context of the suffragette movement, cultural appropriation, orientalism, modernism, postmodernism, post-colonialism and other movements.
