The civil engineering program provides instruction in the basic sciences and in engineering analysis and design. Areas of interest within civil engineering include: environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, earthquake engineering, highway and transportation engineering, hydraulics and hydrology, ocean engineering, and structural analysis and design.
The program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. All accredited programs are required to provide the following minimum level of instruction: one year of mathematics and basic sciences; one and one-half years of engineering science and design (engineering topics); and one-half year of humanities and social sciences.
The total number of units required for the Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering is 122 units, of which 101 units are in the major. Consult with an advisor for the specific number of units required in all areas of the degree including GE and free electives.
