Bachelor’s Degrees

A major in mathematics prepares students to teach in secondary schools, work as research assistants in industry and government, or enter graduate school to prepare for positions in higher education, industry, and government.

The Bachelor of Science degree may be obtained in four years if adequate preparation has been secured in high school, e.g., algebra (2 years), geometry, and trigonometry.

For each degree, a minimum C (2.0) grade point average is required in all upper division courses included in the major.

Students in the Integrated Teaching Option (Option III) as well as the Traditional Teaching Option (Option IV) must earn a grade of C or higher in all courses required for the major to qualify for the subject matter waiver. In addition, they must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or better in the last 6 0 semester units. Students in Option III must maintain at least a 3.00 GPA in all professional education courses.

Students should speak with a mathematics adviser before choosing an option.
