Mechanical Engineering, B.S.The mechanical engineering program provides instruction in the basic sciences and in engineering design and analysis. During the junior and senior years, students may choose from a broad spectrum of electives to match individual talents and interests with a career objective. The program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. All accredited programs are required to provide the following minimum level of instruction: one year of mathematics and basic sciences; one and one-half years of engineering science and design (engineering topics); and one-half year of humanities and social sciences. The total number of units required for the Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is 122 units, of which 101 units are in the major. For Major Specific Admissions Criteria go to http://www.calstatela.edu/admissions/major-specific-criteria General Education Requirements (21 units):Mechanical engineering students are required to take 48 units of General Education (GE) of which 27 units are met by courses in the major.
